Thank you to all who attended our conference.
The evening got off to a flying start, with a fascinating tour of the cement works, kindly organised by Ashley Bryan, Industrial Director of Hope Construction Materials who kindly hosted the event.
After the tour, and a pile of hot roast sandwiches and drinks (courtesy of Hope Construction), the main event commenced with an inspiring talk by Ashley Bryan on the steps that the business has taken to grow and develop and how improvements in systems and processes and a clear communication plan between the team has had a positive impact on the bottom line, making this year one of the most successful in the businesses history.
Sarah Loates from Loates Business Solutions gave a humorous and down to earth presentation on how to avoid problems with your staff, and very much echoed Ashley’s advice to keep communication channels open and deal with problems as they arise.
Jackie Fancourt of Jay Financial gave an excellent and thought provoking overview of the auto enrollment pensions situation that will affect all businesses with staff (regardless of size). It certainly created a lively debate amongst the businesses, many of whom only just were hearing about how this was going to affect them for the first time. For those who missed the presentation, or want to know more, Jackie is running a free seminar at Chatsworth on the 19th September – book your free place here.
Annie Maudling of On A Wick and A Prayer gave a fascinating presentation on how her business has grown and developed and how the use of the Inspired By the Peak District branding has helped them expand their marketing reach to a wider audience.
Finally there was a quick run down of the grant funds available in the area, and an insight on some new schemes that are on the horizon.
The evening concluded with a lively question and answer debate and there was the opportunity to drink “lashings of good ale”, courtesy of Jim Harrison (chairman of Business Peak District) and Director of Thornbridge Brewery.
